National Fishing & Boating Week

National Fishing & Boating Week: June 3–11, 2017

National Fishing and Boating Week, a national celebration of fishing and boating, is the perfect reason to get out on the water and experience the joys of boating and fishing. Coinciding with most state's free fishing days, National Fishing and Boating Week occurs each year during the first full week of June.

Time spent fishing and boating is a great opportunity to talk, laugh, relax, reconnect and create good memories with friends and family.

How can you celebrate?

Lake Sturgeon Reintroduction to the Coosa River Basin

What is a Lake Sturgeon (Acipenser fulvescens)?

Sturgeon are an ancient fish that date back to the age of the dinosaurs. They are a cartilaginous (nearly boneless) fish with a sucker-like mouth, shark-like tail, sensitive barbels (whiskers) under the snout, and bony scutes (plates) along the sides and top of its body. They are opportunistic feeders, meaning they feed on almost anything they can find, with a diet consisting primarily of invertebrates, insect larvae, crayfish, worms and mollusks. Size, weight and lifespan vary from species to species.
